Oscar Winner 1943, Best Short Subject, Cartoon “Der Fuehrer’s Face”
Originally titled, “Donald in Nutziland,” the Academy Award winning eight minute cartoon was renamed “Der Fuehrer’s Face.” After the huge popularity of the Spike Jones recording of the title song, Walt Disney made the change before releasing the animated film starring, Donald Duck.
In what has become a tragically prophetic cartoon, the irascible duck finds himself living and working in a fascist state. “Nutziland” is ruled by a dictator who believes a scenic backdrop is a vacation because he says so. He eventually awakens to find that his experience was only a nightmare, would that we in America’s “Nutziland” should be so lucky.
Maybe our resistance needs to embrace this catchy theme song too?
