Greeting New Year 2019 and Stonewall 50 with Music: LISTEN

Each new year brings with it a celebration of all the possibilities to come.  As 2019 arrives, it also brings the 50th anniversary of our Community’s birth at the Stonewall Riots.  Moreover, “Stonewall50” will celebrate our achievements in equality, justice, and civil rights, not only in America but around the world, as the largest human rights movement in history.

That’s not to say our work is finished, not by a long shot.  Still, we can step back and be inspired by how far we’ve come in just half a century and recommit to carrying on the fight.

The first person who stood up to the police inside the Stonewall and said “Enough!” could not imagine what would happen next.  The thousands of people who took part in the four nights of riots could not imagine what life was going change over the next fifty years. But they all dared to imagine a better life and world for themselves and their community.

“If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it.”
– William Arthur Ward

We are the children and children’s children of those who imagined and dreamed and fought for the life we enjoy today.  We can imagine an even better world and make believe with our own children now.

On this first day of the new year and our family’s celebration, theOUTfront dedicates “Land of Make Believe” by Chuck Mangione and Esther Satterfield to our Community around the world.  A joyous fusion of jazz, samba rhythms, and luscious vocals, this song embodies wonder, hope, optimism and joy.

Just let yourself go…
