In the the most colossal FUCK UP in Academy Award’s history, cinema legends Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the winner of the Best Picture as La La Land.
With the entire cast and producers on stage making acceptance speeches, the Oscars came to a screeching halt to announce the actual winner was in fact the African American gay coming of age film, Moonlight in an upset!
What had appeared to be yet another year of heartbreak for the LGBT Community hoping for a Best Picture Oscar, suddenly turned to disbelief and jubilation when it was announced from the stage of the Dolby Theater tonight in Hollywood that a mistake had been made. Some how the Best Picture envelope got mixed up with the Best Actress “back-up envelope” (who knew there was such a thing?) and Beatty was given the wrong envelope for the Oscar announcement of Best Picture.
It was several minutes before Oscar officials stopped La La Land producers mid-speech and made the correction. To their credit La La Land, producers were a completely gracious and class act in welcoming Moonlight to stage to accept the rightful award.
The LGBT Community now has it’s first Best Picture Oscar, so maybe it only fitting came with unprecedented drama.
