The groundbreaking Falsettos is a musical by James Lapine and William Finn, consisting of March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland.  The story involves Marvin, his ex-wife Trina, his psychiatrist Mendel, son Jason, gay lover Whizzer Brown, and “the lesbians from next door” Cordelia and Dr. Charlotte in the early days of the AIDS crisis.

The musical premiered on Broadway in 1992 and was nominated for seven Tony Awards, of which it won Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.
