With Love & Pride to Gay Dads on Father’s Day
The growing attacks on our LGBTQ families in states controlled by Republicans and the nearly 500 pieces of discriminatory legislation pending across the country make this an increasingly difficult and frightening time to be same sex parents. In Florida, healthcare providers can now deny treatment to LGBTQ parents and children based on “religious objections.” In many states, “Don’t Say Gay” laws prohibit kids of gay parents from talking about their families in school, and books depicting families with two mommies or daddies are illegal.
Conservatives’ efforts to hurt and erase LGBTQ families in the name of standing up for morals and decency is the height of hypocrisy. The leader of their own party has five children by three different women; slept with a porn star weeks after his current wife gave birth to their son; and separated thousands of migrant parents from their children who came seeking asylum.
They are so consumed with their hate and inflicting pain on others, that they fail to realize families come in all different kinds of makeups, colors, and sizes. Most importantly, they’ve never learned the most basic fact about families.
Love makes a family – nothing more, nothing less.
