Honoring The Pulse Massacre 7th Anniversary

By Lawrence Pfeil, Jr.

Seven years ago, the worst massacre of Americans by gun violence, at that time in history, was executed on LGBTQ people at Pulse nightclub in Orlando.  Once again, our Community felt the hate and rage of homophobia.  Forgotten or overlooked in that hate crime is almost all the 49 victims were Latin and people of color.  We honor them now.

Since those 49 LGBTQ people were gunned downed out of hate, the state of Florida has become a breeding ground for homophobic and transphobic hate, intolerance, erasure, and censorship. The laws being enacted there have only grown and new hate groups have formed to help spread them to other states to discriminate against our community.   This will surely lead to more violence and more deaths, as it did at Club Q last November.

If “Love is Love,” then “Hate is Hate.”

We must all stand together, step forward, and be anti-homophobic, anti-transphobic, anti-racist, and anti-hate.  #HonorThemWithAction

But as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”  We need to honor them with action and fight back but not get consumed by the darkness.  We must out love hate.

“We Will Not Let hate Win” is the pledge of the One Pulse Foundation in charge of the permanent Pulse memorial, but their work goes far beyond memorializing.  The foundation includes scholarships, education, programing and running the interim memorial in Orlando.

Until the permanent memorial is finished, you can visit the “Pulse Memorial One Pulse” virtual 360 tour for a stunning tribute to the lives lost, power of love, and commitment to ending hate.

Take the tour below

To become part of the permanent memorial, figuratively and literally OutLoveHate is helping to raise funds for it $49 at time and will include your image and message with it.
