First-look Video of Broadway bound, “The Boys in the Band”

By TheatreRat

“Before there were marches, there was a band.”

That’s how Mart Crowely’s landmark gay play, “The Boy’s in the Band” is being heralded for its arrival at the Booth Theatre this spring.  Its Broadway debut and all-star cast, celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original production, off-Broadway in 1968.

A theatrical revelation for the pre-Stonewall era, “The Boys in the Band” was the first mainstream play depicting gay men as they were in real life: emotionally complex, fiercely funny; viciously hurtful; sexual and loving; but most of all human.

The original downtown production, only scheduled for five performances, became an overnight hit running more than 1000; immediately spawned numerous regional productions; and a film version in 1970.  Now the Boys are finally coming up town for a Broadway bow and have released this behind the sense video.
