WATCH: The Late Show auditions for new Big Bird
Last week Caroll Spinney announced he was saying good-bye to his friends on Sesame Street after nearly fifty years of playing America’s finest feathered friend, Big Bird.
But before his nest could even get cold, the audition call was out to find a new person to fill the iconic eight-foot yellow canary’s place. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert recorded some of the auditions and opened the show with a few of the more interesting takes on Big Bird.
You may recall in 2012, the subject of Big Bird ruffled more than a few feathers when then Republican Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney said,
“I like PBS, I love Big Bird. Actually like you, too. But I’m not going to – I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for. That’s number one.”
It’s worth remembering those words as Mitt Romney is now running for Orin Hatch’s Utah US Senate seat on November 6th.
