The much anticipated biopic, Tom of Finland released its official US trailer today.
Directed by Dome Karukoski’s Tom of Finland, chronicles Finnish artist Touko Laaksonen, played by Pekka Strang, a pioneering homoerotic artist whose work allowed himself gay men to overcome homophobia shed stereotypes breaking free from oppression.
The film follows Laaksonen’s conservative upbringing in Finland where homosexuality was a crime until 1971; service in the army during WWII; and close relationship with his sister before becoming a world renowned artist.
The biopic has been receiving critical acclaim at film festivals internationally since its premiere. It’s slated to be Finland’s official submission to the Academy Awards “Best Foreign Language Film” category this year.
Tom of Finland opens Oct 13th in New York and Oct 20th in San Francisco and Los Angeles before expanding to select cities.
