Sadly, due to performance date and schedule conflicts we’ve never gotten to see them live and in the flesh. But last night, at New York City’s Green Room 42 we saw their all-American, Presidents Day Concert.
“Leave your troubles outside
So life is disappointing, forget it!
In here life is beautiful
Even the orchestra is beautiful”
(no seriously, look at the furry guitar player!)
Begone baseball, hot dogs, and apple pie! The Skivvies’ star spangled strip-ute to all that makes you proud to be an American included drinking, money, freedom, and revolution. Special guests included some of the best talent in New York including performers from Broadway’s hottest shows like Hadestown and Jagged Little Pill. The Skivvies are all about the music, and it’s hard to fully appreciate Nick Cearley’s absolutely brilliant song mash up/medleys unless you see them in person.
For example, there was this First Lady Betty Ford inspired medley performed by the hilarious Lesli Margherita. (Y’all are some twisted bitches and we love it!)
Of course. this is The Skivvies and they love a good reveal…
Clothes make the man but sometimes he’s damn fine without’em #JaggedLittleGinger
President Lincoln (at the theatre… really?) was played by special guest and our current 6’7” Broadway crush, Timothy Hughes. (Be still our throbbing…)
The incomparable Nathan Lee Graham closed the show which is good thing because he brought the damn house down around him.
As fabulous as the show was, there was no escaping the fact that the capacity audience was going back out into the real world to face the messed up, fucked up, Trumped up America, we live in. The Skivvies gave a brilliant and perfect encore to send us home. #VoteFuckingBlue
