Military nude photo scandal investigation expands to gay porn Tumblr pages

You probably have seen in the news the story about service members allegedly posting nude photos of their female colleagues on social media. Defense Secretary James Mattis called it an “egregious violation” against the department’s values, and we have to agree.

Speaking at a Pentagon news conference, Secretary Mattis condemned what he called “unacceptable” behavior, as the department opened an investigation into the secret Facebook page Marines United, on which current and former marines shared images of their female colleagues, veterans and other women and the investigation has spread across all branches of the military, according to reports.

All of the victims have been female, that is until now. NY Daily News reports,

“An investigation into the military’s nude photo sharing scandal has widened to images of men in uniform seen on gay pornography Tumblr pages, according to a report.

Military commanders have promised to hold anyone involved in wrongdoing accountable after reports surfaced of social media pages where service members requested and posted naked pictures of female colleagues.

Some of the men were engaging in sex acts, though it is unknown if they currently serving or if they consented to having their images spread on the internet, USA Today reported Friday.

At least one Marine said he did not agree for an image of him to be republished on a Tumblr page where it appeared, a Marine Corps spokesman told the newspaper.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is looking into the scandal, and investigators are reportedly able to use facial recognition software to identify individual service members from the pages photos, which also feature pictures of military men fully clothed.”

I find it upsetting that the privacy and dignity of these men and women have been compromised because of a few perverts who are actually in the military doing this as some type of joke. It is no joke when photos like these cause embarrassment to your family, your friends, and could possibly result in not being able to be employed in the private sector.

If any of these men decided to share nude photos of themselves, that is another story entirely. Although the military frowns upon that type of conduct, I feel that should be left to the individual.
