Heather Heyer’s Mother speaks out: “I have not and will not” talk to the President: WATCH HER INTERVIEW

Susan Bro, mother of Heather Heyer who was killed in a white nationalist terror attack on anti-racist protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia gave her first interview today with Robin Robert on Good Morning America today.  Bro told Roberts she

“I’m not talking to the president now, I’m sorry, after what he said about my child,”… I saw an actual clip of him at a press conference equating the protesters … with the KKK and the white supremacists.”

Heather Heyer’s memorial was attended by more than a thousand people.  During the service her mother found the strength to speak through unimaginable shock and grief saying,

“I want you to pay attention, find what’s wrong … and say to yourself, what can I do to make a difference? And that’s how you’re going to make my child’s death worthwhile. I’d rather have my child, but by golly, if I’ve got to give her up, we’re going to make it count.”

theOUTfront is humbled by Susan Bro’s grace, class, and most of all common sense in being thrust on the national stage while coping with personal tragedy.  She is an inspiration and example for us.

Susan Bro reminds us of someone else whose child was senselessly murdered by hate, Judy Shepard

“What is there that I can do to make the world a better place?”

  • Susan Bro

“…there doesn’t need to be this kind of violence and hatred in our world.  Loving one another doesn’t mean that we have to compromise our beliefs; it simply means that we choose to be compassionate and respectful of others.”

  • Judy Shepard
