In the wake of imbecilic Donald Trump’s plans to gut EPA regulations and head of the EPA, Scott Pruitt’s moronic statements about carbon dioxide’s effects on climate change, guerrilla activists “took their message to the man” where they knew he’d pay attention to it, on the golf course!
Early Sunday morning a team of four scaled the fence at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA., and with nothing more than simple garden tools, carved their six foot tall message, “NO MORE TIGERS NO MORE WOODS.” The group calls themselves “anonymous environmental activist collective.”
From an article in The Washington Post,
“In a statement sent to The Washington Post, the group said the vandalism was carried out in response to the Trump administration’s “blatant disregard” for the environment. “In response to the president’s recent decision to gut our existing protection policies, direct action was conceived and executed on the green of his California golf course…”
According to a member of the group who discussed the project with The Washington Post on the condition of anonymity, “Tearing up the golf course felt justified in many ways,” the member said. “Repurposing what was once a beautiful stretch of land into a playground for the privileged is an environmental crime in its own right.”
We can only imagine that the founders and activists of ACTUP are applauding their efforts today. This kind of direct action is something the AIDS activists pulled off in the 80’s to get the attention of the Reagan Administration when they ignored the plague that was killing tens of thousands of Americans.
At the end of the month ACTUP will mark is 30th anniversary. It’s great to see their “playbook” and spirit lives on today!
